When engaging a teacher, it is advisable to have a trial lesson before committing to lessons. The trial lesson is an opportunity for the teacher to assess the student for suitability and ability, as well as for parents to have some assurance as to the teacher's suitability.
It is also a opportunity to formalise lessons and home practice matters and to inform the teacher about any learning related issues.
In the rare case where the teacher deems a student unsuitable, she may suggest intermediate actions before commencing formal lessons. Ultimately, it is helpful in creating the right setting and developing fruitful lessons in future.
No. Every lesson conducted is a portion the teacher’s time. Time is precious and teaching is our profession.
However, this does not mean that the teacher may not offer any free lessons. For example, during the Circuit Breaker period in Singapore in 2020, students who were willing to try online lessons for the first time were given a free 30-minute trial online lesson to get used to the setting which turned out to be very successful.
Discounts may be given for siblings who attend lessons back to back. Please check the terms and conditions page for discount policies.
Students with high potential and good character may apply for subsidised fees. Subject to the teacher's availability and discretion, these will be considered on a case-by-case basis, which will be assessed in line with MOE's Financial Assistance Scheme guidelines.
